In 2025, the BC Parks Foundation acquired the 350-acre Cactus Point property near Narvaez Bay on Saturna Island. To help document its biodiversity, SIMRES is hosting a multi-day community bioblitz — from forest to shoreline.

Learn how to use iNaturalist
with Andrew Simon, President IMERSS and a Southern Gulf Islands biodiversity leader. iNaturalist will be used exclusively for the bioblitz. Anyone can attend.

Cactus Point Bioblitz

May 25–27

• Session 1: Mon. 1:00–4:00 pm
• Session 2: Tues. 9:00 am–4:00 pm
• Session 3: Wed. 8:00 am–12:00 pm

Led by researchers from Dr. Tara Martin’s UBC Conservation Decisions Lab. Expect a mix of terrain — including some steep hiking. Bring a smartphone with iNaturalist (or pair up with someone who’s equipped). Lunch provided on Tuesday.
