Please join us for an evening at East Point Park to experience a new art and science short film about the wonderful world of rockfish. There are about 38 species of rockfish that live in the inland waters of Coastal BC and some of them are listed as species of special concern. This film is a dive into the wonder of these fish who live amongst our rocky shores, often longer than we do.
In 2002, Fisheries and Oceans Canada established Rockfish Conservation Areas (RCAs) along the coast of BC to reduce overfishing and allow the populations to recover. Two of these areas are adjacent to Saturna. This year, SIMRES and SEEC started a project to observe the rockfish conservation areas to document illegal fishing and to bring more awareness to these magnificent fish so they can thrive in these waters once again.
