SNORKELLING
ADVENTURES

Around Vancouver Island & the Gulf Islands

Dr. Sara Ellison, Astrophysicist & Avid Snorkeller
The chilly waters of coastal British Columbia may not be the first choice for many snorkellers, but the region is well-known for its stunning underwater ecosystems, typically explored through scuba diving. In her new book, Sara demonstrates that snorkelling can be just as rewarding. The book serves as a guide to the best snorkelling spots around Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Sara provides recommendations for essential gear to stay warm and safe, while vividly illustrating the rich biodiversity of these cold waters. Attendees can listen to Sara share her most memorable experiences snorkelling around Saturna and region and engage in a Q&A session following her talk. Apart from being a snorkelling enthusiast, Sara’s primary occupation is an astrophysicist. She earned her PhD from Cambridge University in 2000 and spent three years at the European Southern Observatory in Chile before joining the University of Victoria’s faculty. With a passion for exploring both dark matter and the depths of the ocean, Sara’s curiosity takes her around the world and back to Saturna. Don’t miss this chance to hear about her exciting adventures. For more info: https://www.astro.uvic.ca/~sara/snorkel.html
