WESTERN GARTER SNAKES

Adaptive hunting from the meadow to the sea.

This month, a BBC film crew for the Planet Earth 3 series is filming western terrestrial garter snakes (Thamnophis elegans) at East Point Park on Saturna Island. Assistant producer, Estelle Cheuk, who is directing the shoot, will speak about how an episode is created for this landmark natural history series. She’ll take us through the process from research to shoot and talk about the camera technology the crew uses to capture the amazing wildlife footage seen in the series.

In addition, Krysia Tuttle, a professional wildlife biologist, will speak about the Western Garter snake, it’s habits and adaptations from terrestrial to marine hunting. Krysia is an expert in amphibian and reptile ecology and works on wildlife monitoring, assessments and habitat restoration in this region.

Please join us for this unique presentation from the amazing Planet Earth trilogy. The series is available on BBC.
